Located just half an hour or so from the hotel is the old colonial town of Salento. They call it "the town of short streets and long memories". Steeped in history, it's colonial architecture dates back to the early 1800's. There is a central plaza lined with little shops and restaurants. The cool mountain air and atmosphere are of another time, long ago. On the north side of the town there are 250 steps which climb to a fantastic viewpoint overlooking the upper reaches of the Quindio and Cardenas rivers known as the Corcora Valley. To the west can be seen many miles of the Cordillera Occidental. Without doubt this is one of the finest views in all of Colombia. It is a popular weekend destination for Colombians for walking, riding and trekking, but is quiet during the week. |
